Mother’s Day in the USA is a particularly special holiday, in that it is not actually an official holiday, but rather a holiday of choice, when all of us agree our moms deserve a holiday from their day-to-day lives. We treat them to breakfast in bed (cooked by the kids is best), brunches (mimosas!), bunches of flowers, and lots of well-earned fuss.
Mothers are recognized by all of the greeting card companies, restaurants across the country, retailers of all stripes, and honored in many houses of worship. An annual event to honor the women who raised us, who helped us raise our own children, or just ‘mothered’ us when we needed it, and continue to do so no matter how much time has passed. And so, we dedicate this one day each year to show our appreciation, and celebrate the virtues and joys of motherhood in all its forms.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in many places around the world, including in Haiti, at Maison de Naissance, where it is celebrated every day of the year. Not just because mothers deliver babies there every day, but because healthy mothers deliver healthy babies every day. Over 5,500 deliveries have been performed at Maison de Naissance since the doors opened in October of 2004. That is 4,969 Mother’s Days. Four thousand nine hundred sixty nine days of celebrating not just motherhood, but life, new life, in all its wonder and glory.
Join us on this journey of celebration, and honor the mothers in your life with a life-saving gift to Maison de Naissance for Mother’s Day. Click here to give the gift of life today, and it will be tripled by a double matching pledge, up to $15,000.
